Is it Normal to Pee more Often than Twenty Years Ago?



Comfort break anyone? And half the room gets up and visits the loo. Middle of the night and up you get for a pee. What is going on? Why with age do we seem to need to pee more frequently? Are we really drinking more liquid than we did 10 or 20 years ago?


It’s one of those things that is considered a ‘normal part of aging’ and, to be totally honest it rather annoys me because, whilst it may be common, it shouldn’t be considered normal.


This was creeping up on me, so gradually that I didn’t really notice. It was happening to my friends too. So that’s normal, yes? For a while (years!) I accepted it.


There are plenty of reasons why you shouldn’t hesitate to visit the doctor, as more frequent urination can be symptomatic of myriad issues such as kidney stones, urinary tract infections, prostate enlargement as just three examples. If there is blood in urine, never hesitate to make an appointment. But what exactly is causing your kidney stones, urinary tract infection or enlarged prostate? All very well clearing up the consequences but how about addressing the cause. If the bath is overflowing, stop mopping the floor and turn the taps off.


For me, an appointment with a kinesiologist interested in parasites identified that I had a low-lying infection. It wasn’t making me feel ill or below par so I had not spoken to a doctor. A short burst of the appropriate remedy cleared it up and suddenly I found I was no longer visiting the bathroom so frequently. These irritating minor infections occupy our immune system and can hamper that wonderful system’s control of other more life-threatening diseases.


How can kinesiology pinpoint the culprit? Kinesiology is a holistic therapy that uses muscle response testing to measure the motor response of the central nervous system to a sensory challenge. By doing this, imbalances are found and can then be amended.


These little pests can and do reappear because they are part of our lives. We pick them up from all sorts of places: pets, vegetables, fruit, meat, the environment. And, if we are aware of this, we can take action when health issues creep up on us. My learning is that it is time to take action when I find my nights are being interrupted; it is time to revert to a remedy for parasites. It is in no way normal for older people to have to visit the loo more frequently than 20 years ago.
